Obituary for Ralph James Banfield
Stow, MA: Ralph James Banfield, 84, of Stow, MA, died on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton, MA. He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Ruth E. (Johnson) Banfield of Stow.
Ralph was born in Brookline, MA, son of the late George L. and Leona M. (Edgar) Banfield. He spent his youth residing at the River Road Farm in Carlisle, MA; spent a year in Newton Upper Falls and a year in Canada. In 1944 at age 11 he returned to River Road Farm in Littleton and at age 12 he moved to Stow, MA and remained there the rest of his life. He was a proud graduate of the Waltham Trade School in Waltham, MA. Ralph worked as a machinist for the GenRad Co. in Bolton, MA for 20 plus years until his retirement. He was a charter member of the Stow Lions Club and former Deacon at the Union Church of Stow.
Besides his wife, Ralph is survived by his two sons, James Banfield and wife Diane of Warren, MA, Richard Banfield and wife Nicola of Shrewsbury, MA; his loving granddaughter Lauren Banfield of Warren, MA along with his many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He was the brother of the late George and Robert Banfield.
Ralph had many hobbies and interests throughout his live but his unique talent at gardening and caring for plants was appreciated by all. He truly enjoyed camping with family and friends and always looked forward to frequent trips to Wakeda Camp Grounds in Hampton Falls, NH. His most favorite times where always surrounded with family and friends and will be cherished by all who loved and knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit Monday October 30th, 2017 from 10:00am to 12:00 noon at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. A Life Celebration service will follow at noon at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow in Brookside Cemetery, Stow, MA.
