Obituary for Vera M. Godley
Vera Godley, born in Suffolk, England in 1942 passed away on October 18 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her dear husband of 52 years, Nigel Godley, and her 5 children and their families Jenny (Bill Keating) and Liam; Preechar In (Phineth) and David and Natalie; Sophie (Kristen Fehlhaber) and Leo; Prang In and Brandon; Stephanie and Finn and Donncha.
Vera had a lifelong commitment to social welfare, human rights, and justice. She received a teaching diploma from Goldsmith’s College, London (1963) and a Masters Degree in Education from Lesley University in Cambridge MA (1984). Vera worked in Lowell and Lawrence for many years. She was passionately committed to enhancing the role, stature, well-being, and success of the immigrant communities in which she worked. Vera was a caring, giving, and universally-loved human being with a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. She was dedicated to her family, both here in the U.S. and abroad. She adored her seven grand children, ages 8 to 14, and aspired to be simply the best grandmother they could possibly have. She enjoyed daily swimming and exercise classes, working in her garden, and was an avid newspaper reader and NPR listener. She will be forever missed by our grieving family and her loving husband.
We invite you to visit with the family on Monday evening between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Acton Funeral Home. A celebration of Vera’s life will be planned in the coming weeks.
