Obituary for Lucille H. (Hayward) Cunningham
Lucille H. (Hayward) Cunningham, of Acton, MA, passed away peacefully at Westford House on Saturday, September 9, 2017. She was 98 years old. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Jeffrey and Susan Cunningham of Littleton, MA and Donna and Bill Hoffman of Narcoossee, FL. And grandmother of Jason and Richard Cunningham. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 53 years, Leo “Bill” Clement Cunningham, whom she married on her 23rd birthday. Lucille was born in Acton, MA, and except for the years when Leo served in the Army Air Force, she lived her entire life in Acton. Lucille was an expert equestrian and spent many years raising and riding her horses. She was a long-term member of the Daughters of the America Revolution. After graduation from Acton High School, she rode the train daily to her job as a bank teller in Boston – a woman ahead of her time – taking after her mother Merle Hayward and father George.
Lucille was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend and we shall miss her.
A private graveside service will be held in Mt. Hope Cemetery, West Acton. There are no services at the funeral home and arrangements are under the thoughtful guidance of Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, MA 01720. Donations in her memory may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. 406 W. 34th St., Kansas City, MO 64111 or vfw.org.
