Obituary for Robert Edward Frost Sr.
Robert Edward Frost Sr., 85, of Biddeford, ME, former longtime resident of Acton, MA died on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at his residence.
Robert was born in Concord, MA, son of the late Clarence A. and Inga (Pederson) Frost. He was raised in Acton Center by his parents along with his Norwegian grandparents and many aunts and uncles. He cherished his involvement in the community and was proud of his local work history starting at the age of 5 years. He attended local schools and was a 1949 honors graduate of Acton H.S. where he was President of Student Council and played varsity baseball and basketball. He became the first Eagle Scout in Acton in 1947; served as the 1948 Master Counselor of the Order of DeMolay in Maynard, MA; was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Maynard; and a member of Kora Temple Shriners in Lewiston, ME. In 1951 he earned his Associate’s Degree in Business from Burdett College in Boston and enlisted in the U.S. Navy that July. He served during the Korean War and was stationed at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI for 2 ½ years as the Administrative Assistant to the President of the college. He later spent a year as Senior Administrator for Commander Cruiser Division Two in the Atlantic Fleet (Europe) on both heavy cruisers and submarines. He was honorably discharged from active duty in July of 1955 and the U.S. Naval Reserve in July of 1959.
In 1953 Robert married his first wife, Judith (Heyliger) of Concord, MA and they spent 35 years together until her untimely death in 1988. He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Smith and survived by her husband Les Smith of Maynard, MA; predeceased by his daughter Paula Lent of Laconia, NH; survived by his son, Robert Frost Jr. and his wife Brenda of Cary, NC; his son David Frost and his wife Jane of Mendon, MA and also leaves his 5 grandchildren, Tracy Edwards, Alan Merriam, Joshua Lent, David Frost Jr, and Caitlin Fitzpatrick.; four great grandchildren, Alexia, Bella, Jaxon and Mckaylah; his sister Marcia Reynolds and her husband Walter of Orange, MA along with many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Clarence “Skip” Frost of Acton, MA.
In May of 1989 Robert married his second wife, Lorraine I. (Gendron) Frost. They have spent 28 wonderful years in Maine. He is also survived by her daughters, Pamela Laverriere; and her husband Thomas of Biddeford, Maine; Joanne Smith and her husband Freeland of Kennebunkport, Maine; and Janice Auger and fiancé Kevin Little of Arundel, Maine, and also leaves four grandchildren: April Laverriere, Thomas S. Laverriere; Zachariah Smith, and Jacqueline Hurlburt; and five great-grandchildren, Nolan, Thomas, Madeleine, Hunter and Easton.
Robert began his career in business in 1955, serving as Chief Accountant and later General Business Manager for Louis A Flerra Co. in West Acton. In 1960 he served as the Manager of Accounting and Administrative Services for the Bonny Manufacturing Corp. in Maynard. And from 1964 to 1967 he held various positions with several local companies. He then began a long career with The Asher Company of Fitchburg serving as Vice President, Treasurer and General Manager until retiring to Maine in 1985. His personal drive to continue working in management led him to the hospitality field. He became the General Manager of Norseman Resorts, then Vice President of Seacastles Resort both in Ogunquit, ME. In 1998, he and his wife Lorraine bought a restaurant and catering business in Sanford, Maine known as Genes’s Restaurant and Bakery, and starting in 2000 together they managed the Sleepy Hollow Motel in Biddeford, ME until 2006.
Robert had many interests throughout his life but always cherished times with his family and extended family members. He treasured the weekend getaways with his wife Judy to their second home in Cape Neddick, ME and later all the wonderful times with his wife Lorraine. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing. Robert has touched so many lives throughout his own life and his kind and loving spirit will be remembered by all who loved and knew him.
Family and friends are invited to a service and celebration of Robert’s life on Friday, June 30th 10:00 AM in the Acton Congregational Church, 12 Concord Road at Rt. 27, Acton, MA. with Rev. Barbara Aiello officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, 104 Concord Road, Acton Center.
