Obituary for Anthony J. Pizza
Anthony J. Pizza, 93, of Venice, Florida, formerly of Maynard, MA passed away on April 19, 2017. Born June 13, 1923 to Salvatore Pizza and Marianna DeSimone. He was predeceased by his siblings Michael Pizza, Connie Waldron, Lena Cook, Rose Taylor Soar, wife Margaret (Dumas) Pizza of 48 years and granddaughter Jessica Leach.
Anthony enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 at the onset of WWII. He served as an aircraft maintenance instructor and then as a flight engineer until he was discharged in 1946. After the war he earned his pilot’s license in 1947 and loved the experience of flying. An avid golfer and long time member of the Maynard Country Club. He was a Registered Professional Manufacturing Engineer and worked 38 years with Raytheon Company in Waltham, MA. A member of the St. Rafael’s of Englewood, the American Legion #159 of Venice and member of Council #7052, Council #1818 Knights of Columbus, past Grand Knight of Council 2121 Maynard, MA and past Faithful Navigator of the Edward F McSweeney Assembly #400 of Framingham, MA.
Anthony is survived by his current wife Vincenza Giarrano of Venice FL, his sister Virginia Paul of Maynard, MA, daughters Ann Marie Hickman and husband James of Pepperell, MA, Elizabeth Ann Rourke and husband Michael of Groton, MA, grandchildren Heather Steinmann and husband John, Joshua Schneider and fiancé Anja Becker, great grandchildren Taylor Steinmann and Jake Steinmann. Step-children Leonard, Patricia, Carl, Vincent, Roberta, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
