Obituary for Joseph L. Pennington Jr.
ACTON: Joseph L. “Joe” Pennington of Acton, formerly of Somerville, passed peacefully March 8, 2017 at his daughter’s home surrounded by his loving family. The beloved husband for 52 years of the late Betty P. (Zawtsos) Pennington, he was the loving father of Susan Christmas and her husband Robert of Boxborough, and the late William Pennington, and his wife Melanie of Acton. Mr. Pennington was the loving grandfather of Heather, Elizabeth and Joseph Christmas, and dear brother of the late George Pennington and his late wife Aloise, and Harold Pennington and his wife Jane. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Joe served on the City of Somerville Fire Department for over 38 years, a career he loved. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Betty all over the country. Joe was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his children and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Joe was a proud Marine Corp veteran.
Visiting hours are Friday March 17th, 2017 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday March 18th at 10:00am in St. Isidore Church, 429 Great Road (Rte 117) Stow, with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery, Concord Road, Acton Center.
