Obituary for Leo L. "Lee" Hood III

Leo L.  "Lee" Hood III
GARDNER: Leo L. “Lee” Hood III of Gardner, MA, formerly of Acton and Dorchester, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 26, 2017 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 79.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Leo L. Hood Jr. and Jessie E. “Teddie” (Sweeney) Hood. Raised in Dorchester, he was a graduate of St. Mark’s Elementary School, Boston College High School, and earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University. His engineering career in the commercial, military and aeronautics fields included work at M.I.T. with the Hubble Telescope, and in research and development with NASA. An Acton, MA resident for over 20 years, he retired to South Carolina for 10 years before settling in Gardner two years ago. He especially enjoyed summering on the Vineyard for over 30 years.

He was the loving husband of Marcia L. (Langill) Hood, to whom he was married for 28 years. He is also survived by his children, Jonathan, Douglas, Lisa and Matt, and Marcia’s daughter Jennifer, and their families; sisters Sr. Carol S.N.D., Nancy, Marilyn and Judith; brothers Robert, Kenneth and Malcolm; and a large extended family. He was the brother of the late Patrice Hood.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, February 1st from 10:00am-12:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton, followed by the funeral Mass at 1:00pm in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington Street, Acton. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Acton Center, will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Hood requested memorial gifts to be made to benefit prostate cancer research to the Mass General Hospital Development Office for Dr. Chin-Lee Wu Research Lab, Attn: Heidi Bergmeyer,165 Cambridge Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114, also online at http://www.massgeneral.org/urology/support/
